have several of these and they work well. even have one in the fridge, freezer, and cars just for temp reporting. the ones in the fridge and freezer are in small heavy duty zip bags. the one in the freezer was reporting 0 battery for a while and now its been reporting -11 battery, but it is still reporting the temp.
some people put them in mailboxes so they know when the mail has come.
I placed the door sensors in my safe and also outside in my electrical fuse box. It gives me a piece of mind tracking when this is open/closed.

Smartthings Hub is of no use unless you have "Smart Things", like pairable door sensor, motion sensor, water sensor, etc.
