So I've got one or two spare phones and I was thinking of keeping one in the car or a travel bag as an "emergency phone."
I wanted to know if there were any companies out there that sold cell plans where you could buy a block of talk/text/data instead of a monthly plan?
Also was looking briefly at FreedomPop, but I'm kind of confused about their offering and the rep they get here. It looks like they have a free plan with low limits (which is fine) but that you can't control overages? Anyway might be interested in this if someone could enlighten me as to how they work.
I use Lycamobile for that sort of thing. You can add the minimum increment of $10 to your account without choosing a plan, and the balance doesn't expire as long as you make at least one phone call or send one text message every 90 days. It's sort of an unadvertised deal you probably won't see spelled out explicitly on their site. There was concern the deal had ended[prepaidphonenews.com] with some updated terms several years ago, but it's still working for me. There's more discussion of the deal here[howardforums.com]. This post[howardforums.com] is particularly useful for setting up service.
