Remember to follow some basics to help keep your IP cameras secure:

1) Do not port forward.
2) Change default passwords
3) Turn off UPnP on router
4) Use a VPN setup on your router to allow you to access the cameras remotely. ( this is different than a VPN service some may have purchased that allows you to go out of your home to another IP address, you need one to allow you to come into your home )
5) Set up firewall rules blocking cameras from accessing the internet so they can't "call home"

Should work well with Dahua OEM NVRs.

i wish these had varifocal lenses. not sure why they make cameras with fixed lenses because they are so limited based on placement.

Hi wpc,

That would be nice!

I think with so many of us not knowing much about security cameras the vendors have few customers who'd be willing to pay the extra $20-40 per camera for that.

There are cases when you need a varifocal camera and there are cases when, well, you don't. Especially for an outside camera. I am more interested in any opinions on the quality and if it works with popular NVR software.

Funny you say especially outdoor cameras because I specifically bought varifocal for all our outdoor cameras so we can get some detail to faces and license plates. Most of them are set at Max zoom. So this camera at 2.8 is the opposite zoom level of my cameras at 12

So you could have gotten fixed lens cameras with 12 mm lens.

Hi Topcho,

Nice solid camera, not certain if it is ONVIF compliant as I have not dug too deeply into the specs, still the rtsp feed is available as a typical IP camera and should work well with Dahua OEM NVRs and software VMS which can catch a rtsp feed. ( Blue Iris is explicitly mentioned as working with this camera )

ONVIF supported to some level.. waiting on that info

FYI - M12 lens iirc, so you can swap out the fixed 2.8mm lens with a stronger one.

There's a thread on ipcamtalk of someone doing that with a similar sized bullet from Lorex.

I have an indoor PTZ amcrest, which has been rock solid. I was pleasantly surprised. Amcrest doesn't seem to be formally supported on XProtect but perhaps the Dahua equivalent is if somebody knows which it is.

Hi Slickwav,

Looks close but, what I can tell this one does not have the IVS features which the Q-see branded Dahua OEM one retained but renamed as IVA.

Hard to fully tell without additional info on the imaging chip used.

Note - if you are using Blue Iris - then it will be doing the the "IVS" features on the PC.

Yes but most of them are but not all. Actually if you want to get the best picture possible you need a varifocal to get the exact picture you need with all your megapixels used for footage you want and not a bunch of background

Hi Topcho,

For this camera I would try to see if any Dahua 8MP cameras are listed in XProtect, and if not then any Dahua IPC-HxW4xxx models. iirc they mostly use this to determine the rtsp format data.

In particular I would look 1st for the following model

IPC-HFW48xx or IPC-HDW48xx ( one is a bullet model, other a turret - both 8MP )
