That would be nice!
I think with so many of us not knowing much about security cameras the vendors have few customers who'd be willing to pay the extra $20-40 per camera for that.
Funny you say especially outdoor cameras because I specifically bought varifocal for all our outdoor cameras so we can get some detail to faces and license plates. Most of them are set at Max zoom. So this camera at 2.8 is the opposite zoom level of my cameras at 12
Nice solid camera, not certain if it is ONVIF compliant as I have not dug too deeply into the specs, still the rtsp feed is available as a typical IP camera and should work well with Dahua OEM NVRs and software VMS which can catch a rtsp feed. ( Blue Iris is explicitly mentioned as working with this camera )

There's a thread on ipcamtalk of someone doing that with a similar sized bullet from Lorex.

Mat2000- is this the same model from Costco you posted 2 weeks ago?
Looks close but, what I can tell this one does not have the IVS features which the Q-see branded Dahua OEM one retained but renamed as IVA.Hard to fully tell without additional info on the imaging chip used.
Note - if you are using Blue Iris - then it will be doing the the "IVS" features on the PC.

Yes but most of them are but not all. Actually if you want to get the best picture possible you need a varifocal to get the exact picture you need with all your megapixels used for footage you want and not a bunch of background
For this camera I would try to see if any Dahua 8MP cameras are listed in XProtect, and if not then any Dahua IPC-HxW4xxx models. iirc they mostly use this to determine the rtsp format data.
In particular I would look 1st for the following model
IPC-HFW48xx or IPC-HDW48xx ( one is a bullet model, other a turret - both 8MP )
