How is the suction on these kind of Vacs ompared to a household one supposed to be? I have a hp Stanley one that is considerably weaker than my cheap 1800 W canister vac...

I need a shop vac for woodworking... do I go for this or the Ridgid 14gal/6hp with the car cleaning kit for $50 more? https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGI.../203820088

It would seem like this is the no-brainer deal though.

I have the 5hp shop vac and it works really well. I even made a attachment with some silver duct tape and some old vacuum attachments for more versatility. I use it to clean my car all the time. I would not pay double for what seems to be a little more power and plastic attachments and hoses.

It comes with a pretty wide vacuum attachments that should pick up saw dust with ease

Probably around $100. But I did see some guy said he got his from homedepot at $40, two years ago though. I think this is still a decent deal.

They said the price is originally $99. They sell a similar one for $70 that is 10 gallons smaller. It seems more like this was made as an event product than an everyday. The hose is smaller so it does not work with as many attachments. Still on the fence about it.

Good catch on the hose size. I have a ridgid vac that I've used for about 12 years now and still going strong. The smaller hose size will reduce the size of what it can pick up without clogging. IMO it's worth getting the larger hose size unless all you use it for is cleaning cars, etc.

I don't see a difference in the hoses...both look like 7ft x 1 7/8..am I missing something? I'd expect Rigid has 'rigid' standards...

Not as small as the Shop Vac 1 1/4" hose. This Rigid one is 1 7/8" and it's a good compromise between a huge/bulky hose/attachments (2.5") and usability. I find the big 2.5" hose/attachments pretty clunky honestly.
