Never ever am I buying hotels.com GC. If you use GC, you can't use any coupons, so what's the point.
You'll get 10-15% off coupons, so it turns out to be the same and makes investing in GCs useless. And if you use coupons, you don't accrue nights.
That was my experience, if things have changed, I'd like to know.

I booked a few hotels.com nights using gift cards along with a 10% off coupon few days ago. No issues. I did use a credit card for a small portion of payment. Don't know if that made a difference. Or may be it's coupon specific (unlikely).
No reward nights when I used the 10% off coupon. Got the nights when I didn't use a coupon and made most of the purchase using a gift card and small portion using a credit card. Personally, I'd take a 10% off upfront than a free night worth the average of 10 full price nights.
I did not, however, see a paypal option for rest of purchase when paying partially with a gift card. Something to note if someone is planning to take advantage of chase freedom 5% rewards.

Yes you can use coupons with GCs with no problem.
It will make the stay ineligible to count towards 10 nights = 1 night free just like any other time you use a coupon.

Uhh... So what you're saying is actually you *should* be using the Gift Card instead, because not only can you get 15% off the purchase price, but you also can get the free nights (10% back) for a total of 25% "discount"
If you are right about not being able to use a coupon with a GC (which you're wrong), then a 15% coupon would only net you 15% off because you aren't getting the free night.
IMHO, get this 15% off GC. At least there aren't any exclusions on which hotels you can use the GC on (unlike the coupons).
