Boost Mobile Motorola G6 Play $79 at Walmart ($129 at Target)

Walmart has the Boost Mobile Motorola G6 Play for $79.

This is a great deal. Target rang up at $129. They would not price match Walmart because the deal is not on Walmart.com -- but the phone is clearly marked "$79" with a big yellow sticker.

I had to ask twice. The first time, the customer helper said, "no, we don't carry that". Then I was like, really? Can you check inventory? And poof, they had three. I bought 2.

Question... does anyone know if this is unlocked for GSM? or can it be unlocked for GSM? I haven't been able to find the phone listed on any frequency sites.

Not if it's the Boost Moto 6 Play but it can be unlocked. Many are putting it on the Sprint BYOD or the $15 plan and hoping it will get unlocked. It can be unlocked once on Boost for a year. There are Moto 6 phones that are unlocked but they are more expensive.

This phone has been available at Walmart for at least a month now at the $79 price.

Absolutely. I have 1 on there and 1 in the works waiting for a landline to be ported. Looks like phone was fine--but still in box. Takes longer to port a landline phone and it should be ported at 12:00 AM tomorrow---in about an hour Smilie. I am going to run it off of wifi and use it as my landline phone. Won't use much data but it's cheaper then having a landline phone and will stay at the house. I have 2 other phones on this plan--1 Moto G5+ and 1 Moto G6 Play, and then waiting for this port to finish to activate my 2nd Moto G6 Play You have to have a number ready to port and also make sure you have the phone and I just read the numbers off the box so this last one isn't opened yet. I called it in last Thurs and had no challenges and no hesitation or questions asked.

Getting ready to cut the cord on cable tv and landline phone.
It's all the taxes and fees that make cable so expensive.

Just have to figure out the best way to stream now. We've had a few tv's streaming--but now have to get more advanced on it as we won't have the tv cable for back up.

I did not have the same luck. The sprint rep knew it was a boost prepaid device and did not pass this as usable on the BYOD.

I am not sure if the scanning at Walmart had anything to do with it. However, the rep did advise me to do something fishy lol.

Ask for the phone before they scan it, and call Sprint to activate the BYOD and that should work, then proceed to buying the phone.

Fortunately I did not open the box and can return this item.

I don't think there is anyway. From what I understand, Boost has the phones locked down tight. I don't think people have been able to use a new Boost on Sprint since around 2016.

I don't feel scanning had anything to do with it. Just call again and get another representative. some are activating it online and purchasing a sim card from Sprint but this phone comes with a sim card in it. Some people have called in a few times so it depends on what representative you get. Use the DEC code for the phone. I should know here in another 40 minutes if mine will work. The number should be ported then.

Walmart did say I could return the phone even if it was opened. If your running out of time--return the phone and get another one so you have another 14 days but I'd try calling tomorrow and talk to a different representative. This has to be DONE over the phone with the special number or online through the special link for the BYOD for the FREE YEAR.

That's the program I signed up for and we will see how well Sprint works. It's not the best in my house but seems to work everywhere else so that's why I'm using the Moto G6 play--to use wifi calling in my house. The unlocked Moto G5+ does not support Wifi calling.

From what I hear I have to agree with this previously but this Moto G6 Play is going on the Sprint BYOD program. I have 2 of them on there---One I've been using since mid May and the other one I'm waiting to activate it when my landline ports which is shortly. It's already been accepted so just waiting for the phone # to get there. Many people have been able to get them on the Sprint network. There's a glitch somewhere and who knows when it will be shut down.

Now whether we get it unlocked will be another story. I called to get mine unlocked and they said it had to be on the service for 50 or 60 days before they could unlock it.

I did the that the first time and then I asked which # on the 2nd time and she said the DEC and the DEC # is what shows up on my account. Well it's 12:01 and my landline is still active so I wonder what time zone they were talking about. Well looks like landline has been ported. Still haven't turned on the phone yet. will probably do it when I get up

Wow, normally it's 12 months and even then it's hard to unlock.

Note that the Boost G6 Play is a variant with 2GB of RAM, while the unlocked Moto G6 Play (Bestbuy is showing availability on 6/29) will offer 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage for $199.
