BTW, you can use these to filter cheap Vodka! Makes it taste better.
They go bad much sooner then the real filters. I usually love Amazon Basics things but these are definitely not worth the money.
So I'd listen to the reviewers on the Water Filters, I'm not really sure what "operator error" looks like for a water filter anyway, and most of the issues described seem emblematic of cheap filters.
Only batteries maybe

AmazonBasics is not an "Amazon" brand. It's just a random Chinese product promoted by Amazon. You can get the same quality or better for less by ordering directly from a Chinese supplier or ordering any one of the rebadged products.

I think your mixing Amazon Choice with Amazon Basics. Basics is something Amazon puts their name on, Choice is something that is a product that meets the requirements needed for the designation.
AmazonBasics = cheap product with "AmazonBasics" brand. Quality is terrible. They don't do anything other than just putting the logo.
AmazonChoice = product advertisement paid by the supplier. Price and review inflated due to paid advertisement and sponsorship.

I've had good luck with Amazon Basics cables, bags, etc. Quality was good and better than Chinese crap (though, obviously, their stuff is made in China too). Maybe you've had bad luck and these filters are poor quality, but I don't think Amazon just slaps their name on crap.
Companies order by specifications. For example, 1 foot USB cable with a resistor, color selection, brand sticker, and 0.05% quality control. Each selection costs extra.
Literally, you get what you paid for.
For AmazonBasics, you're paying more for the markup rather than its features. People see "Amazon" and automatically associate it with quality.
