Yes, the sale is already live. Hotwire is very legit, one of Expedia group's brands.
hotwire has to hide the hotel names because most of the travel agencies have contracts with hotels that they can not give the hotels on a lower rate to any other Travel agency. Most of these hotels and travel sites have best rate guarantee.
To circumvent that hotels have contracts with Hotwire that they have to hide the hotel names. Now you can not price match or get a best rate guarantee with Hotwire .

It's a unique business model that's why difficult to market too. $49 hotels are very cool marketing strategy. They are taking a big loss on these hotels but acquiring new customer. Win win for both. Smilie

Awesome! Parents are coming in this weekend and now I'll get to sleep in my own bed...

$49/night for the Sheraton Grand Chicago (same hotel is $168/night on SPG.com!!)
Always book through them. They have to hide hotel names to offer these lower rates.

Is this already started? The page does not say a starting date and looks like it is already in progress. But there are no $49 4 stars in any cities.

Insanely good price for NYC. Just tried 7/2 - 7/4 and found some 4.5 star hotels for $49. Wish they had this when I was there. Smilie

Anyone have any experience with these? Looks like you book without knowing exactly which hotel and they assign you one in your bracket and area. Nonrefundable of course.

Yeah, I use Hotwire all of the time. It is a bit of a gamble, but usually 3.5+ stars is a safe bet. You can check the amenities and choose the area, but hotel is shown after you buy. I tend to go w/ the higher reviewed ones. Some of the selections will show you 4 hotel pictures and it will be 1 of the 4 shown. I think with a 4+ star hotel for $49, it shouldn't be much of an issue if it's good. You should check to see if there are any resort fees though. Sometimes none, but some can be high. I like Hotwire or Priceline. Fun finding a new hotel and getting a good deal on it.

there are two hotels available for 49 in NYC. this is definitely a good deal as for 49 there you can hardly book a hostel. be careful - one of the hotels charges $34 resort fee making total $83 which is still a good deal but not as good as $49.

Is there a trick to find out the hotel name before booking? Maybe going by # of reviews and rating? I'm just interested in knowing the parking fee as it can be as high as $50 in Miami...
