I got this last time, didnt find it slow at all, it depends on the settings. I think its pretty awesome.
It was slow to rebuild, but then changed the setting to fast...

It's a dual core ARM cpu with 1gig of RAM. I wouldn't expect much from it. Most cell phones have better specs

Ya, and the regular 431 had 512mb. Ouch.

Slow in what regard?

I have 2 of these and just set up a 3rd for a family member. They are plenty fast.

I love my qnap nas, especially the mobile apps, but it depends what you want to do with it. I would recommend at least starting with an intel celeron processor to give you considerably more options in the future. This is a great starter nas if you simply want to have "cloud access" to your files, photo server, etc.

The software has security bugs. Standard Linux distributions do not support the processor.

Most NAS are meant for energy efficiency due to always being on. RAM may be a joke, but CPU choices bear high consideration on it. So-called NAS and "green" label hard drives so however unnerve me. As they go from being somewhat eco-friendly to being most energy efficient if they die on you.. from product reviews. I've sworn by Enterprise drives even if the ones pulled from massive server farms supposedly have been overused.

Oh well. Some point I'll probably look to set up a new NAS system. I've been spoiled these five and a half years by my HP N40L MicroServer that I steadily upgraded hard drives on

I had this thing. It did the job as storage for my plex server, but I had 3 WD reds with 8 Tb in each drive. This thing only supports RAID5 for 3 drives, not 4. It's a study little unit if you have a relatively small library. I got the 451+ and man, that thing is a massive upgrade over this. This is good for entry level, nothing more
