I want to just use this as an iPod
Yes you can, You need to leave SIM inside phone to get to home screen. Thru the setup, phone will attempt to activate itself a couple times unsuccessfully because no airtime has been added. It will eventually get to home screen and will be ready to use as music, apps, games, whatever. No need to remove SIM after that unless you start seeing that pop up a lot of people talk about. Something about activation. Removing SIM will take care of that.

Avoid this eBay seller [ebay.com], his rsim does not work as has been reported by multiple users. Edit: His rsim12 works fine after using a ballpoint pen and gently press the copper contacts. I hope you guys didn't throw it in the trash.
