Last time on sale my dad bought me this same model in post.

I had previously bought a $4 cheapo in 2017 off SD

https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/320824

My thoughts on comparing the two. I did test in meats, ice baths, and air. Found about one degree differences in cheapo(33 in proper ice bath vs 32), about 2 secs slower readings, and of course a much much cheaper build in the hand. Both are still operating great.

Would i buy the thermo? No not worth the price difference between the two for the features. Buy a cheapo that takes real batteries "aaa" not coin type. Is it a great product absolutely, but for a home cook a cheaper one will more than likely be all you need.

My expirence: past professional chef, now just cook for family.
Absolute hog wash. You only need such a good thermometer if you're doing some very advanced cooking or cooking in a high demand kitchen (like a restaurant). If you're like 98% of home cooks, you do not need this and should not buy it. Way too expensive even with this sale.

The LavaTools PT12 is $25 on Amazon right now. ThermoPro TP03A is $12. Both will do fine for your average cook.

The main advantage of the Thermapen is that it's faster and slightly more accurate than other models. Those benefits simply aren't worth $50+ for your average home cook.

I bought one of these on a similar deal last year. It has been consistent and reliable. I wouldn't pay $100 for it, but this is a great price.

Ticks me off that I just paid more for open box a week ago... Pretty slick thermoworks... but thumbs up for the post... Obviously I would have been all over it... The open box I just received seems as new, and may well be...

They're a cool company - perhaps contacting them and explaining the situation would get you a credit or something. Worth a shot.

Thanks, I finally had an offer on my card! For others interested, this is an actual coupon for Thermoworks themselves, not just a genericmoney off coupon. Thanks and repd you and OP!

So how do these American Express deals work? I went through my promotions and linked to the site, and then as I am checking out it will be normal price, and then they credit me back the difference? I'm wondering because the order will be around $0.75 less then what is required for the discount, but of course after shipping it hits the $75 threshold.

On the amex page, after finding the thermoworks deal make sure to click the button which adds the deal to your card. I used the link in the amex page to get to the thermoworks site as well but the discounted price didn't show for me. So, I used the link in the SD post and went through checkout that way. As you noted, shipping makes the price over $75 and immediately after purchase I got an email from amex saying they recognized my qualifying purchase and I would be receiving the 15 dollar credit. Oh, when I put in my shipping info I was quoted tax but in the final purchase no tax was added.

Anyone still off-put by the price should try a Lavatools Javelin PRO Duo [amazon.com]. Picked a couple up, on sale, for $40 not too long ago. Excellent product.

Paid $100 for mine last year, absolutely love it. It gets used constantly and still looks brand new. Haven't had to change the battery at all. If I for some reason needed another one of these, I would be all over it. I remember shipping being pretty quick, too. Ordered on a Tuesday/Wednesday and had by Friday.
