I had previously bought a $4 cheapo in 2017 off SD

My thoughts on comparing the two. I did test in meats, ice baths, and air. Found about one degree differences in cheapo(33 in proper ice bath vs 32), about 2 secs slower readings, and of course a much much cheaper build in the hand. Both are still operating great.
Would i buy the thermo? No not worth the price difference between the two for the features. Buy a cheapo that takes real batteries "aaa" not coin type. Is it a great product absolutely, but for a home cook a cheaper one will more than likely be all you need.
My expirence: past professional chef, now just cook for family.
The LavaTools PT12 is $25 on Amazon right now. ThermoPro TP03A is $12. Both will do fine for your average cook.
The main advantage of the Thermapen is that it's faster and slightly more accurate than other models. Those benefits simply aren't worth $50+ for your average home cook.

Thanks, I finally had an offer on my card! For others interested, this is an actual coupon for Thermoworks themselves, not just a genericmoney off coupon. Thanks and repd you and OP!

On the amex page, after finding the thermoworks deal make sure to click the button which adds the deal to your card. I used the link in the amex page to get to the thermoworks site as well but the discounted price didn't show for me. So, I used the link in the SD post and went through checkout that way. As you noted, shipping makes the price over $75 and immediately after purchase I got an email from amex saying they recognized my qualifying purchase and I would be receiving the 15 dollar credit. Oh, when I put in my shipping info I was quoted tax but in the final purchase no tax was added.
