TN is a negative when compared to other displays. Personally it doesn't bother me so TN is never a deal breaker.
<1080p and non SSD usually are deal breakers.
So I'd consider this.

He probably just mentioned it because he'd personally pass on a TN display
OR
He wanted to make it apparent to people who don't know what TN is so they look into it and decide if they are ok with the limited viewing angles.
