i don't know when this ends
Delta Skymiles has put Shanghai China on sale. Fly round trip starting from 40,000 SkyMiles plus tax/fees. Their website to look for award travel is very simple to use. Two samples I attached are for ATL-PVG and BOS-PVG. I also tested a few others including JFK (also 40k).
Use this link [delta.com] and enter your departing city to Shanghai China (PVG)
Book travel from there. FYI Amex Membership Rewards is transferable to Delta SkyMiles, but not Ultimate Rewards.

There are not very many cities in this world that are filthier than NYC, with that being said, San Francisco is definitely worse.
Here's my cheap and more traditional shopping tip for Shanghai. Many tourist shop along Nanjing Rd, the big pedestrian walk between People's Square and the Bund. But most Chinese don't shop there. Head north across the river, you can walk it from Nanjing Rd. There's another street there that parallels Nanjing Rd. That's where the Chinese shop. There's a electronics area at the tail end. On weekends you can find people selling crap on the sidewalk flea market style.
