VERY USEFUL TIP:
This works awesome but the design part of the socket (it has 4 plastic tabs) has broken on me a few times making it unusable since the socket wouldn't stay on the base.
After you get your socket...remove the design part by squeezing the sides and popping out the socket. Then grab some superglue and put glue around the edges of the socket. Put the socket back in the tabs and let it set. This way, it won't pop out or ever break.
ANOTHER TIP:
For those with magnet phone mounts, you can also add in a part of your metal plate cut into a circle inside your socket. I usually glue mine to the plastic part, while I'm gluing the tabs in place. [It's enough material to hold my S8, not sure if you've got bigger/bulkier phones, but the socket does need to be "in" for it to feel stable]

As a fashion statement maybe but as you stated it has its uses. I have blue one so nothing flashy but I love having a stand that I can reposition or put on any phone case.

Edit to say the only reason I get actual pop socket is for the personalization so the code is useless to me.

They definitely come in handy, especially for taking pictures with your phone. Stays in your hand easily without the fear of your phone slipping out of your fingers or dropping it. It can also be used to prop up the phone to watch videos. You can easily retract it when you are not using it.
