Stuff amps with cheap trash knockoff caps, knowingly, and when they inevitably blow tell people to pay for new stuff, or throw the whole thing out.
I barely used the thing since I lived in apartments for several years. It blew up a year or less outside warranty. I had probably used it full out for a couple hours. He wasn't obligated to do anything because warranty but when you knowingly make a trash product and then stiff your customers while trying to be an id/word of mouth, you deserve the reputation.
Guy is a scam artist. I have had an svs since my hsu went out, run it hard, and have no problems.
Thanks for the info!
With so many choices out there, it is hard to decide. I was leaning more towards SVS because of the 5yr warranty on the complete sub vs the 5 and 2 on HSU.
I am also considering JTR and PSA. I currently have a Mirage 15" sub that I am upgrading. I have had it for over 20 years and no problems.

And I have been reading recommendations on AVS forum and Audioholics about going with two identical small subs compared to 1 bigger sub, to get rid of dead zones. So, budgetwise (and value for price), two HSU VTF2-MK5 is the way to go for me now.
Any thoughts from experts?

JTR subs are absolutely phenomenal... I've had a Cap 1400 for about 2.5 years now, though that's probably overkill for most folks
FYI all...SVS rep said that Labor Day sale will begin Tuesday. Let's see what type of discounting is done. I am even open to their clearance deals, because they carry the same 5yr warranty (Driver and Amp).
FWIW Hsu offers quality output for the $... but from the reading I've done on AVS through the years, there's a reason they offer an extended warranty on their electronics specifically, and a reason most folks suggest you get it.
Once you add that, and the shipping, their regular pricing isn't quite as great bang/buck wise as they seem initially compared to some of the other usual suspects

That thread was about an older product that HSU no longer made, and therefore could not offer replacement parts for. A 2 year warranty on electronics and 7 on the woofer seems pretty generous in terms of electronics. I'm guessing that the price of a similarly powered SVS with it's free shipping and 5 year warranty is about the same or more than the HSUs when you add in shipping and an extended warranty.
Also, the amplifier sections are easily removable and replaceable on HSU subs, so saying that you have to "throw the whole thing out" doesn't seem quite accurate either.
I'm not contesting your assertion on the reliability of their capacitors, but I'm also not seeing enough evidence yet. I need to do more research. And even if they aren't as long lasting, in light of the above (performance/price with extended warranty), I'm not sure how much it matters.
