Amazon has a bunch of Samsung 860 EVO SSDs for sale,


Doesn't have NVME like the 960 EVO but $130 less for the same capacity. It is about $10 less than the last price I saw on slick.

No, this is not normal, and is below normal pricing today. It will definitely go back up. In case you didn't know, M.2 - and I'm not taking about price bloated NVME drives that many can't use - make up most of the M.2 sales here.

I don't need one right now unless it's 2tb, but I'm glad to see the SATA M.2 prices come down if even temporarily. My last Samsung 1TB 850 evo cost $297, and that was a good deal when I purchased it about a year ago...

Worth pointing out that m.2 is a FORM FACTOR - it tells you the size and physical connector it uses. It has no bearing on how fast the drive operates. (Other form factors are 2.5" (common for other SSDs and laptop HDDs) and 3.5" (desktop and external HDDs).

The speed of the drive is largely dependent on the PROTOCOL the drive uses. These drives use SATA, same used by all 2.5" SSDs and nearly all HDDs on the market today. NVMe is the much faster protocol (easily 6x the read speed, and 3-5x the write speed), which carries considerably higher prices currently.

Just bought this earlier today for $177. B&H also has is for similar price but no tax in CA. Prices are bound to drop near BF, but at least I can hope to price match it, especially since no coupons are required for amazon. Good deal..!

Hoping SSD prices continue to drop. I'd love to upgrade my Asus Zenbook Pro but unfortunately it only takes m.2 NVMe drives. Oh well...here's hoping for a sale on those soon!

Out of curiosity, I was comparing read and write speeds of this vs the ADATA drive that was listed the other day. I was surprised to see that the Samsung only supports read/write speeds of 550MB/520MB.

The ADATA drive supports 3200/1700MB. (XPG SX8200 PCIE NVME GEN3X4 M.2 2280 480GB SSD)

At first I thought it must be a typo but I confirmed on the Samsung site. If this is the case, then this drive is not even close to a deal for these prices.

At first I thought you were wrong, but indeed, there's a huge performance difference between the 960 and 860 nvme drives.

But, on the flipside... prices are coming down.. and the form factor of m.2 drives are great!

I would use 860's for strorage and 960's for OS/Scratch drives.

Are m.2 and nvme m.2 the same type of sockets on the motherboard? I have a computer and would like to upgrade to ssd and it does have a m.2 ssd on the motherboard. I'd like to have the nvme cause of the faster speed, but I don't know if my would support that. It's does not say nvme on the motherboard just m.2 ssd.

Can anyone please help? I'm lost on the new technology. Thanks for your input.

Interesting, there are three FP for Samsung products (SSDs, Micro SDs) in the last 24 hours. I wonder if they are ready to launch something new, hence the lower prices lately.
