Save your money for real repairs and upkeep. Gas additives will do little but waste your money.

I have a friend who swears by those gasoline additives that claim to increase your gas mileage. I think they're all worthless. Am I right?

You can understand why people want to believe this type of product works. Wouldn't it be nice if you could pour an additive or pop a pill into your gas tank at each fill-up that would significantly increase your car's gas mileage? But fuel additives — both commercial and homebrewed — are almost always a waste of money.

And buy gas from a retailer that has newer tanks/pumps. Don't buy into the "top" gas BS and pay more for nothing. Its marketing fluff to charge people more. Applause

I used to buy these when I was a teenager for my Honda Civic. Now i'm older and wiser, i come to find these products to be snake oil. You really don't need it. Sure they could clean a dirty fuel system but your typical gas you put into your car contains detergent that cleans the system already. So you don't have a dirty fuel system to clean. Save your money
you are partially right, to some degree now days everywhere (fortunately, yes things have improved), but some lower tier gas stations do not have the highest grade detergents already added. ones like Chevron and Shell are examples of highest quality, but not all are.
Thanks...good advice. I was hoping someone would say it.Applause

It's a must for direct injection to help with the carbon buildup

Is the 20 oz better for larger cars (trucks/suvs) while the 12 oz is fine for smaller cars (sedans)?

The concern with the carbon build up occurs behind the intake valves. Since a DI engine doesn't spray fuel over the intake valves the Techron has no way to get in there, and therefore clean the valves. But are you suggesting it's good for the cylinder heads?

Only the top tier gas stations have a quality detergent. A lot, if not most, of the people fill up at the cheapest gas stations such as grocery store brand stations, that do not add the necessary amount of quality detergent additive. This is necessary if you fill up at such and then some stations. You're fine with the Shells, Chevron's, Exxons, ConocoPhillips of the world.

I also believed that for a the longest time, but after seeing a youtube video of a old dude mechanic who is pretty much a no BS type of dude I am not thinking differently. The dude for the life of me cant remember his name or channel right now, showed the inside of an engine after using regular gas and it has never been cleaned with a solution like this. You could see the build up with the scope he sent down there. He made it clear unless it says for fuel systems with ethanol you were probably wasting your money, since all our gas now has a certain % of ethanol. He used a solution cleaner which again I dont remember the brand but it specifically said to be used with ethanol gas, ran it per the directions, inserted the scope I believe the next week and it was a huge difference.

So does not seem like snake oil anymore unless your buying the incorrect cleaners. I believe all cars could benefit from this once a year or every other year. Need to see if this complete kit mentions ethanol before I jump on it. Also if you would like I can find the youtube video and his channel?
