Ni-Cd = No-Go for me these days. Grabbed a couple Hypertough 20V Lithium Ion models a few months back for $5.00 each.

Everything about this drill sucks from the low torque, slow speed, small chuck, wimpy charger and especially the ni-cad batteries, but the price is great. That makes this a good deal as long as you manage your expectations of what this is capable of and how long the battery will last (time per charge as wells as time before death).

Thumbs up from me, for the price, not the product.

ni-cads are absolutely useless these days. they are toast whether you use the drill or not in 6 months. Spend the 10$ more bucks and get the lithium drill. That way even if the drill burns up(which it very might well do) you still have 5 decent 18650's for flashlights or whatever.

Even at this price it's not worth it. Better to spends a few bucks more to grab the black & decker ones with newer battery tech.

it depends on the brand and type of batteries used within. My Kawasaki 19.2v used Sanyo batteries and one lasted me 12 years with constant use before dying. The other one is still going strong. The batteries are heavier than Li-Ion - but comparable in terms of performance and likely will have better quality. You can always buy 18650 batteries in bulk from fleabay for real cheap and replace your Sub-Cs. though a lot of manufacturers are still producing these batteries. .

The $5 drill was a highly YMMV deal when Walmart cleared out an old model. This current deal appears to be available everywhere.

Are you saying older nickel cadmium batteries are junk? I've got 15 year old Ryobi and Craftsman that still run excellent.

Yes, and if you can find a box that doesn't have any red writing on the battery it may ring up for $5.00.

50% more cost for similarly low quality and poor performance, but it has a better battery.
