Lowe's vs Home Depot vs Best Buy for appliances

I'm pretty sold on Lowe's when it comes to things like ceiling fans, but I'm interested in larger appliances: dishwasher, refrigerator, oven (inset into wall), and electric range. Also dissent fixtures such as new kitchen sinks, bathroom vanities, tub/shower stall, and toilet. As the variety suggests, I just bought my first home and am ding some modernization. I thought, what better time to cash in some airline points for gift cards? Now my struggle is figuring out which brand for what amenities.

Thoughts? Wins? Horror stories?

You will get a 10% off Lowe's coupon from the postal service, if you filed the change of address for your new home. That's an easy discount. I used my 10% off to purchase a washer/dryer combo.

If you plan on spending over $1500 at Home Depot, go to the contractor desk and ask for a discount.

Definitely not BestBuy. I have close to $600 in BB giftcards but I still did not purchase anything from them because their post sale customer service (if you have any issues with the item which you purchased) is terrible. You cannot go wrong with HD or Lowes. Try places like Ferguson... go with your contractor. Ferguson's contractor prices are less than the best online prices.

BTW: Congratulations on your new home Smilie

I recently purchased some appliances and as we know HD has been going better than Lowes business wise for a while however appliance guy at HD told me Lowes beats them for appliances every single time. HD still does offer their price matching policy of an additional 10% however that usually can't be applied since they're the store that usually offers the lowest price every single time I have looked at an appliance from washers, dryer, ranges, fridge! Lowes does offer coupons more often than HD I give them that. HD in my opinion has better customer service over the phone than Lowes in store might be Lowes but that depends on who you get and what side of the bed they woke up that morning. That's my two cents good luck!

I really appreciate all the feedback! (Not sure who thumbs-downed this post, since it's exactly what Deal Talk is for [re:buying strategy]). Whatever, F the haters and I'm thankful for the insight. I figure with BF coming up, I'll stand a decent chance at getting a discount in addition to the GC and Mail in coupon route. I think if it's down to appliances that are identical between stores, I'll opt for the cheaper of the two. When if comes to store-branded or store-specific stuff, I'll swing towards Home Depot.

Oh, off question but still related: Actual lumber and hardware (for redoing the bathroom)... Still better at HD?

I'm a contractor and I've purchased appliances from all 3. Pricewise, they are all pretty much the same, within a dollar, when it comes to sales. However, if you go into best buy and speak with an appliance store associate, they do have margins even on the sales prices, so you can often negotiate with them to purchase an appliance suite for less than the sales price.

Unless a customer wants to purchase a specific appliance that BB doesn't care, I exclusively purchase appliances from BB due to the fact that they give me better discounts and I am an Elite Plus member where the money back adds up. Last year I had over $500 in credits back and was able to buy a new laptop computer for $100 out of pocket.

Point being, try BB out and see what you can get.

If you don't mind minor scratches or dings try a Sears Outlet. I bought my dishwasher and fridge from there. Like new and no one even sees the scuff on the stainless.

The topic is vague, and there are too many factors to take into consideration for anyone in this forum to be able to provide specific help.

IMO, more important than the store you buy from is the appliance brand, also your location (talk to store associates to see who's more helpful), the type of appliance you're looking for (eg. gas vs electric range, glass top vs coils, etc.).

I'm looking for the global answer. If one place is better for tile, I want to know that too.
