I grabbed these on a previous deal at 699. Great sound. Well worth the price. If you have a card with price match, buy through eBay, earn extra bucks, then price match to their website. YMMV
This is Beyerdynamic's flagship headphone, so yes it's better if you have good DAC and a AMP that can drive this 600 ohms beast. However, if you just want to plug it straight into your phone or laptop then no, it's not powerful enough to push it (you will be disappointed with the sound).
I owned the 880 and 990 both in 250ohm and can say t1 is better, but as everything audio, it's all subjective. To be fair though I run these off an audeze deckard and only ran the other two off of a fiio e18k or o2+odac
I heard the dt1990s are the better buy. Anyone confirm?
I have the DT1990 and the T1 v1, both Tesla drivers. Great build quality on both, the sound as delivered the DT1990 is what I call a fun HP, nice clean clear and that fun bass boost; the analytical pads flatten out that bass boost and make it sound more like the T1, so yes sort of best of both worlds.
That said I still love the T1 and V2 lets one easily go balanced if desired; I also love HP designs like the T1 that angle the driver to your ear, just a nice extra touch. The T1 is more comfortable with less clamp than the DT1990 Pro. If I were to buy just one it would be the T1.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I prefer a fun headphone and like some energy in the treble, so it seems the DT1990 Pro might be for me.
I mean...people buy $1000+ phones without a blink. Similar diminishing returns there if we had to be fair. You could get a Oneplus for half off and get a great experience with many of the flagship amenities. So theres that.

Grabbed a pair. Thanks!
Edit: don't know for sure but I would think the normal color might also have better resale value than the Buydig exclusive special edition version.
