Has anyone played around with this? Looking for a robot that my son can use to learn coding and such like Cozmo, but no way we can swing $160 this year for that kind of thing.

Yeah, definitely kids will like it. my 2 years old son liking this a lot.
How does this differ from the hasbro r2d2 that was recently on sale at Walmart for $20? I see that it can wobble and stand on it's toes. Is it a more challenging toy to program?

Look on Facebook marketplace- I've seen people unloading cozmo for as little as $25...
I don't have this sphero but I have ultimate lightning McQueen and I can tell you that it's super impressive! If this one is anything like that one your kids will love this thing. My 4 year old thinks ours is the coolest

Also- I don't think these involve as much coding as cozmo supposedly does, it's my understanding these are more of a toy.
What's an r201??? Is this the regular Spere R2D2???
If so, the difference between it and the Hasbro is the Hasbro is bigger, but the 3rd leg doesn't retract. I have both, and have to say, I like the Sphero better, even if it is smaller. It can do more

This robot doesn't have any sort of coding involved.

There's no coding with this, it's a toy. If you want coding get a laptop or a tablet.

The wife threatened to kill me in my sleep if I bought that Cozmo one. Maybe with this one, I can get away with just a light castration :-D
