I have had both, 6 and 8. I think because of its size, I was much more apt to pull out the 6 than I am the 8. And if we did have a large group to feed, we borrowed another family members 6 and split the dish between the 2 cookers, and ran both. But we found the 6 to be plenty to feed at least 4 people.

6 qt is kinda small?

We don't know your cooking habits nor the size of you family, how can we tell? I have a 3qt and a 6qt. Both work for a 2 adults + 2 yo.

Family of 6 here. I saw the 6qt of a different brand in person at the store. The inner put looks kinda small. But I'm afraid the 8qt takes up too much room on the counter. I'm thinking of perhaps getting an extra 6qt inner stainless steel pot and cook two batches or different dishes back to back?

Thanks for the input! Do you find that it's easier to work such as searing and sauteing with in the 8qt due to having the extra room? Also, how reliable is this brand? Based on the Amazon reviews, they kinda give me pause, especially when it comes to dealing with their customer service.

Yes it is a cardholder only deal Frown But if you dont have a kohls charge, if you pay your balance on time and in full every month (and arent expecting any large purchases in near future, house, car) it is a great card to have. Probably the best store card out there.

Instant Pot seems to be definitely the "go to" brand for pressure cookers nowadays. I would say in terms of reliability ours have been great- but we probably dont use them to the extent some people do. My first was actually a Amazon warehouse deal, shipped loose with no padding in the box. So it was dented as heck, but inner pot was fine so we chanced it laugh out loud.

If you are concerned about reliability, I would be really inclined to buy from Kohls vs someplace else....they have probably the most generous return policy that I know of (Kohls is my favorite place to buy bedding, for that reason!). The only place I would be critical of instant pot is, for us, out of the box it wasnt as user friendly (programming wise) that I got the impression that it would be. I don't have the ultra though. Mine is the duo. But my mom (who has a 8 & 6qt Duo too) actually got the swing of it much faster than us. So maybe it is because we were pretty new to pressure cooking. As for the sauteeing, I have a call into my mom and am waiting to hear back- she uses hers probably once a week, maybe more.

I prefer the 8qt if it will cost only 10, 15 bucks more.
