This is a good deal for this TV, the TD are probably from people who feel you can get an 82" Samsung for $1899 but are not considering the quality differences in the picture between that 82" Samsung and the LG OLED. Or that spending $4799 on a TV is not worth it no matter what.
IMHO, OLED is the best TV technology on the market today. Each individual pixel is lit separately allowing for a better picture than LCD / LED tvs which use a backlight to light multiple pixels (the best LED tvs have hundreds of backlight zones to allow for a better contrast). OLEDs also have infinite contrast ratio thanks to perfect blacks that disappear in dark scenes.
The drawback to OLED is that image retention and burn in is possible but the technology has come a long way and it isn't like it is easy to cause burn in. Prolonged exposure to static images can cause issues though (think channel logos or a hud in a video game), but it takes hundreds of hours to cause it usually (some isolated cases with defective panel have had burn in happen with significantly less).
If you're in the market for this particular TV however, $4799 is one of the best prices I have seen. Better prices could be around the corner for Superbowl Sunday and of course by then you'll have an idea of what the 2019 LG OLEDs have feature wise and whether or not you want to wait.
Hope this helps! I would be all over this if my wife would let me!
If my wife can justify spending this much on a Chanel handbag I think I can justify spending that on a tv
Great deal for a fantastic TV, I personally own the 65 C8.
As someone above mentioned, some folks will automatically TD based on sticker shock alone; some can't fathom paying 5k for any television. Although not everyone here, there is an amount of folks on here that aren't the most tech savvy; comparing edge lit LCDs against OLEDs. Cost is relative. I believe this is the best price I've seen for a 77 OLED (Disclaimer: I haven't purchased anything of value from urlhasbeenblocked though).
Edit: for those concerned about image retention, under normal use, it's really not a concern. It takes quite a bit of excessive static images. My Panasonic plasma had none and that was even worse than OLED.
Good luck and hope this helps!
