This is an absolutely smokin' deal! (pun fully intended)
These were $899 originally at Costco AND come with the cold smoker box and a cover and a fold-out stainless steel shelf. Just the basic smoker itself (without cold smoker box, shelf, and cover) sells for $899 currently on the Louisiana Grills web site. If you bought all the components individually they would easily cost you over $1300 or $1400.
We own this smoker (purchased on sale at $599.99 at Costco) and love it. Very good build quality. Comes in 2 boxes.

I don't really think temp swings matter that much, unless they're gigantic. Offsets have pretty large swings and you get some of the best BBQ out there. Pellet grills need temp swings to produce enough smoke.
You should be able to reduce temp swings by preheating the grill on max temp for about 45 mins, if that's an issues
However, your last statement about preheating the grill for 45 mins is a good example of why I like this LG pellet grill even better. It's easier to get a cook started and there's less to fiddle with throughout the smoke. I can pretty much just fire it up and within 15-20 minutes or so be ready to smoke. The WSM took at least mins.
I'm not bashing the WSM - it's an excellent product. And while I never thought I'd say I'm a pellet smoker convert...I think I'm turning into one.

FWIW my dad has a LG900. Over the summer the pellet box caught fire and he had to replace half of the grill. I know they sent him a new temp controller and a few other pieces but it took a number of emails and calling them out on twitter and facebook a few times before he got a response. He bought his as an upgrade to a Traeger which had it's own set of problems. From what I've seen, even with the so-so customer service from LG, I would still go with that over the Traeger.
My brother still uses a Traeger and he's always complaining about the hopper getting jammed, temperature swings, and not being able to keep a high temp. His pork shoulder and brisket still turn out great, and the brisket from dad's LG900 might be the best I've ever had, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy either, even with the inherent problems.
