I have a Lenovo Smart Display and I have had zero issues with it. Never drops WiFi. We love ours. Wife uses it daily for recipes and smart home control.
I'm confused. I have the 10 in version and it ia basically a chromecast with display. I can cast any video that is 'castable' and I can make it show my camera feeds from around the house. Also good for video calls (Google Duo app). Maybe I'm not understanding the issue though.

Great price though.

and can it be hacked?

I have to admit, I bought the 8" version and I expected it to basically be a Android display with constant voice recognition where ya could load up display apps from Google Play. Instead I found something complicated to set up, no Google Play apps and largely useless as you can't make it do what YOU want it to do nor look like.

Google has totally blown it.

Do NOT buy this. I own one. There is a known issue where it constantly drops wifi connection, even with static ip. Get google home hub instead. I have that too and it works perfectly.

Great price, bought at Costco for 150 when on sale. Very happy with it. Controls all my smart plugs and even Adt alarm. Never had a dropped WiFi

Some jacka** in Phoenix went and scooped up over 10 of them in the last hour. What a waste of time.
