I need a compressor, but something a little beefier than the 39 dollar 1/3 HP ones. Anyone have any coupons for the bigger ones, or experience with them? TIA.

Thank you for the scan on the Mover's Dolly for $7.99 (#93888) Turns out they are on the sidewalk sale today for that price so I didn't need the coupon. I purchased 2 and was able to use the 20% off on each one (2 separate orders). So cost before tax was only $6.39 each.

But once I got home I looked them over close against 2 others I purchased yesterday from a big box store (Menards) for $14.97 each. I planned to purchase the HF ones and return the Menards ones since the price was so much different.

The Menards ones have bolts with nuts through the wheels (like an axle) that are removeable if you had to replace the wheel. The Harbor Freight ones you cant remove the are held in (the axle) with a rivet type axle.

Also upon tying to tighten the nuts that hold each caster to the wood the nuts would just spin on the HF dolly. I'm guessing that the head doesn't have a square part under it that would be burried into the top of the wood. When I tried to tighten the Menards ones they were nice and tight and didn't spin - the seem better made.

The HF ones are rated at 1,000 lbs, and the Menards at only 660 lbs. But that's not a big deal because I would just use them to move household furniture.

We are getting new carpet in our bedroom in the next couple weeks. I need to move out 2 dressers (solid wood), heavy pillowtop mattress and some other stuff. I'll try the HF ones first and "hope" that they work well, but will still have the Menards ones nearby incase the HF ones fail. One set is going to be returned - Either the 2 HF, or the 2 Menards.

After the carpet project I'll post again and give a great review on the HF dolllies.

Anyone that has the HF dolly I would love to hear your review on them. Thanks.
I would venture to say the HF ones have an exaggerated weight limit on them. I have a few and that small of a caster I doubt could support 250# for any extended period of time or over a long distance.

The 2HP 8G 125PSI oiled goes for ~99.99 once ever 4-6 months it seems. Just saw a monthly from December than had that coupon. The 2.5HP 21G 125PSI oiled is in for ~159 in the January monthly ( http://widgets.harborfreight.com/...&hftref=cj ) but goes ~149 around 4-12 months.. I've got a 2HP 8G 120PSI oiled Husky that's pretty comparable and with a 7G tank inline before my filter/regulator, it works quite well (it's detached and in my car unless I'm using the compressor; handy for roadside tire emergencies). Watch your hose length and size, depending on implement. Except for the light staplers/nailers and car tires, I'd anticipate the 1/3HP to be almost useless.

This weekend is the parking lot sale and I've seen the $149 ones (better sale price) ones in the 'referb' pile. Usually a use for 1 job and return type of item.

Not sure if HF has changed to include oil, but make sure if they take oil that you buy and fill the unit prior to running it. Otherwise it won't run long.

Compressor crank spins in the 3000 RPM range. Not unusual. The 1000 RPM range is more ideal (the 2HP 29G 150PSI model for instance http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ho...68127.html ) is generally quieter. Alternatively, make an air pipe to channel air in from an area where sound isn't an issue (ie 2-3" PVC to keep the filter in place).

I have a dolly I got for free with a coupon. I spent a couple minutes at the store picking the best I could find--wood looked good, no rust and tested the rolling action. I have it in the garage with a 5000 watt generator on it. After a few months, the thing rusted all over. You can actually see that the ball bearings rusted. Now the casters don't rotate freely. If I ever do get another one of these, I would put some grease in there first thing.

Yeah all the little pancake one does is top off tires. Though for that, it works out great and the price is certainly right. Looking to use the new one for light automotive work, impact wrenches, cut off wheels, etc... With the 8 gallon one do that, or even the 21? The cfm rating seems awfully low.

Impacts? I do that but the only reason it works is I'm not going at it continuously. Think pulling a set of tires. You'd likely pause between each tire. Die grinder? It'll struggle a little while running it. Cut-off? You'll be taking pauses like the impact every 10-30 seconds, depending. 1 standard cubic foot is about 15PSI and 8 gallons. I typically get ~3 or so SCF from peak to 95.

If you think you'll be running the cut-off a lot, you'll either pay time to wait on the compressor or you'll be buying the 2HP 29G 150PSI or larger. Ideally, your compressor should be able to rest while you're using tools to allow it to cool.
