This is probably due to the nature of rechargeable NiMH batteries. The mouse is probably measuring voltage and expecting a regular disposable alkaline battery. These start out at 1.5 volts and gradually run down in a straight line. NiMH batteries are different: they start out at 1.2 volts and hold steady until they're down to around 20% capacity. So, there's probably nothing wrong with your batteries or the mouse, the mouse is just misreading the true capacity.
Amazon also has it for the same price right now:

What do you program on the buttons for work? Just curious to learn, as I'm always looking for ways to be more productive.

I own a few logitech mouses, mainly the g502 for gaming. But after using a quality mouse and going to work and using a $5 ecno box mouse I ended up buying a 602 for work. I love it and would recommend it to anyone for this price.

Got this over Thanksgiving. I use this mouse about 12 hours daily, using rechargeable batteries. I have to put in new set of batteries once a week. Whenever I put in newly charged rechargeable batteries, the battery indicator bar is always only half full. I don't know if that is because something is wrong with my batteries. Reading review from people here, seems some people experience this, and some don't.

This mouse is my favorite for the past 5 years. No issues with battery or functionality.. I actually bought a new one for when it breaks. Its that good to me. But obvs everyone has a different preference and you should really see how it fits in ur hand. I have rather large hands.

If you have a desk job and don't have one of these you're working harder, not smarter. I have 8 programs that save me many hours every week. The battery life is just okay, nothing like logitechs marathon mouse, but still a fantastic mouse.

Thanks for the clear and precise explanation worship, that makes a lot of sense! I'll keep that in mind when reading the battery indicator from now on.

Go to Logitech site and update the firmware and install the connect utility. That should fix most of the connectivity issues described in the 1 star and 2 star reviews.

I bought one of these for $24 last thanksgiving, and I love it. Works very well.

Thanks for the explanation. I've been using a pair of eneloop batteries for almost a couple of months now (in the high performance blue mode too), still most of the battery indicator lights light up. So, I better have another pair of charged replacements handy.

I have 2 of those. Dongle stopped working for one of them after year or so, so logitech shipped me replacement for free. Battery life is amazing. For 2x$30, I am not complaining.
