These are bats that are typically used in organized baseball. If he just wants to hit balls in the backyard, there are cheap alternatives available.

Any recommendations? They did have some in the $25 range pre-coupon

I don't mind spending a little extra to get something that will last. He has 2 younger brothers so it should get plenty of use.

Sure. I would need a couple of details. Age, weight and height. He sounds young so most tball bats will do but the length and weight make a huge difference.
