I loved the first 2/3 of this book and the last 1/3 was pretty meh. Saying that I'm glad I read it and it's worthwhile for SyFy fans. For only $2 bucks I say go for it. Sometimes, I think writers come up with a good concept and they don't know how to finish it. Or maybe they are just a little too in love with their own work.

I quickly skimed thru the description. So, is it like 'Noah's ark in space' kind of story?

Summaries don't do Neal Stephenson justice. He takes an idea that might seem simple but goes very deep into the theory/details/science. So while it is entertaining it's also well thought out as to how it could actually happen or work.

I just finished the Three Body trilogy. It sounds like this will have a similar feel; I'm down with $2 to find out.

I really enjoyed the beginning, but it really lost me towards the end. Actually gave up on it and read the plot summary on Wikipedia for the last bit.

If you liked 3 Body, I think you'll like this one quite a bit. Lots of interesting concepts and hard science. Funnily enough, I actually found 3 Body when I was looking for more things like Seveneves.

Only book I finished was snow crash which I enjoyed quite a bit. That was quite awhile ago... I read part of cryptonomicon, but tired of main character 1/4 of the way and shelved it.

Now. Will I really like this?

I liked this book. Between this and The Martian, which is a very different book, I will pass when it comes to traveling into space.

I really enjoyed this book. I found the ending very life affirming and hopeful though I get why it didn't impress others

Yeah, this is a lot slower than the Three Body trilogy and doesn't have anywhere near as many twists and turns. It's also pretty grounded, at least for the first half of the book. Which isn't to say I don't recommend it; I just wouldn't go into it thinking your going to get a similar experience to Cixin Liu's magnum opus.

I've heard people refer to the Three Body Trilogy as hard sci-fi but I think they're smoking something because that series gets way, way out there. It's certainly got a basis in fact, but it's also nearly as wacked out as Philip K. Dick and structured similarly to Asimov's Foundation series in that it's constantly re-inventing itself, changing its protagonists, and jumping through time. Seveneves -- at least for the majority of the story -- is way more grounded and focused on the logistics of what it would actually take for humans to survive in orbit after losing their home planet.
