I got my dewalt at the same price, ~ 2 years back. It has 2" less max rip width. I would love to have that 2", but I wouldn't trade that with an item from HF with 11 reviews.

Don't get me wrong, I have many (mechanical) tools from HF and I am very happy with those. But if I am spending this much, I would rather go with a proven maker.

Ok so I got the Dewalt DWE7480 2 years ago too when Sears was bleeding tools but for those lacking a wayback machine it's not a bad deal. I haven't seen one in realtime yet. I hate the miter slots on the DWE7480. The Hercules looks like it might be better however the fence adjustment on the DWE7480 is very impressive.

When HF came out with its first Hercules tool to compare with higher end manufacturers, it came with a 90 day warranty (while higher ends had 3-5 years warranties) at comparable prices. Is this still the case? Don't want to spend that kind money with no warranty.

The Hercules line is manufactured for Harbor Freight so if you are within the 90 day warranty or if you purchased the extended warranty (which is usually pretty cheap), you just bring it in and they swap it out for a new one. There is no waiting, no down time. Harbor Freight emails your receipt so long as gave them your email address. Makes proof of purchase easy.

With Dewalt you'll need to call(if theres a number) or email support, get an RMA and ship it to an authorized service center. You'll be without your tool for a while. Hopefully you have your receipt and registered the item if not you'll probably be refused warranty service.

Lowes will probably replace Kobalt for you if they have one in stock or they'll try to replace with something Kobalt that is like the failed tool. You might have to argue about this, I've read some stores tell you to contact Kobalt and ship it to them even though the posted warranty says to return it to the store (https://www.kobalttools.com/guarantee) I had a ratchet replaced that broke. They didn't have the same model so they gave me one like it, actually it was a little better then the one that broke. But keep in mind Lowes is pushing Kobalt out for Craftsman so it's difficult to know if there will be Kobalt replacements in the store in the near future.

90 days is pretty small for a premium priced tool, their cheap tools have the same warranty.. I have tools that I haven't even opened in 1st 90 days

To be honest $249 is not a premium price for this tool.

Assuming you are talking about the dw745 you can move the fence mounting nubs out aways and get most if not all of that 2". I did that on mine it worked perfectly.

Premium Brands (What HF is marketing Hercules brand toward) is Dewalt, Makita,Milwaukee etc. They all offer warranties in years not days. The cheap brands noname or low name brands (Chicago, etc) offer warranties in days. If HF is going to price these in the non low name or noname brands and compare them to these, they should offer a warranty with them. As long as Hercules has a 90 day warranty, you can not take the brand seriously. It shows how much confidence the seller has in their brand. HF has other brands that they offer lifetime warranties on.

"doesn't seem to have a lot of confidence" So HF is willing to give you the option of NOT having a warranty and keeping some money in your pocket OR they will sell you a 100% instant replacement plan vs companies like DW who won't give you any options and force you to pay for the warranty whether you want it or not. And you think that shows a lack of confidence?
