Here is my experience with doing a similar deal with cricket in the past. I am on the grandfathered 5 for 100 plan, and needed an upgrade and here are the steps I followed.
1. Get a t mobile number to transfer off the bay
1a. Or buy a cheap T-Mobile ICCID on eBay and activate on T-Mobile $3 PAYGO (give 89126 as primary place of use zipcode to avoid extra fees). T-Mobile provides account number immediately upon activation. Total for ICCID and $3 PAYGO will be approximately $5.
2. Log into your account and use the number to get this deal, $275 + tax + plan price $55
3. If you are using as a new line, you are done at this point. Just activate your new SIM and number
4. If you are using on existing cricket account, and don't want the new line, all you have to do is wait and in one month the new line disappears off of your account. The money paid for the plan will just be used against what your monthly bill is. Do not use the new SIM if you do not plan on using the new line/number.
5. If you are not planning on using this phone on cricket, you will be out the cost of the plan. There are sellers on the bay that say they can unlock the phone for about $10.
I have done this a couple times to get new phones for family on the plan and it has worked each time without a problem.

you can port a number to Cricket and get this phone deal, after you receive your phone , you can insert you current cricket sim and use the phone as normal, you can ditch the new sim or use it while is active for the month, you can cancel afterwards or just don't pay it, it will cancel itself out
