Almost purchased on PC or PS4, then I just read the reviews. Seems to be flopping, especially because of the micro-transaction/loot box thing.

Micro transactions are only for comestic apparel ONLY. It won't affect game play where as on I believe Injustice comestic gear added to individuals stats. This one does not

Apparently it does involve gameplay. I was reading reviews and read something about "skipping levels" but it costs $.

Yeah when you purchase crystals. Purchasing crystals will allow others to skip ahead & obtain new cosmetic attire before someone else who is merely grinding it out. But like I said it's only a cosmetic thing! But I definitely see the frustration of it all! Especially with the new way the krypt is set up & the apparent ageless slow grind involved. If they don't update it soon they could have real trouble on their hands & really discourage gamers from wanting to play! Studio need to stop the money grab mentality.

Well I'll just wait a month maybe and it will probably be close to half price. I thought about buying it today when I was at Walmart. They had all console versions marked at $50, but ended up getting Yoshi's Crafted World instead, since it was the same price. Seems to be a new thing with Wally World, or at least the one here. All their new releases are $50 or less. I also got the Soul Calibur PS4 deal over the weekend and it arrive today, so another reason not to get it, even though I'm sure the fighting is different between the two.
