While the initial runs of these machines had issues the company has been very responsive in sending out replacements parts.

If you were looking to make your own retropi/mame cabinet… I challenge you to find Controls and Cabinet for less than $75. There are a number of Facebook Groups and at least one Sub-Reddit dedicated to helping you you get the most out of your purchase.

Prices as low as $75, seen some $150's out there too in ZIP 27612If you need Technical Support or Service:

Got one Ceti at Durate, CA store. Should have two left in the back. Employee was nice enough to get it for me from the back. I also saw two Asteroids at $150 and two Rampage at regular price.

I saw 2 listed on Brickseek at Duarte around 6pm. Call the store, associate tells me they're sold out. Then I see this at 10pm. Go to store, associate says they're out. I say please look in back. He found one even though system showed 0.

So putting bias aside, which game is better, Centipede or Asteroids?
Out of the box, Centipede is a better playing cabinet in it's stock configuration just because the crappy spinner in the Asteroids cab feels more like the volume control pot on a bad boom box than a proper arcade control, though you can buy an upgraded replacement from A1Up for $30. The Centipede spinner in these can be fickle but there's a lot of good info on tweaking them with a bit of lube and alignment of the optical element to make it work well.

Centipede is a vertical oriented screen, Asteroids is standard 5:4 aspect ratio... both have unique controls compared to the other cabs, an experience that's less common than joystick controls in other types of games these guys are putting out. If it's your thing, I'd grab these while they are available, or perhaps the 12-in-1 Atari cab if it goes on clearance.

I picked up 4 of these cabs yesterday (2 each asteroids and centipede, one set for me and one for the neighbors) and have my email confirmation from earlier today indicating they are sending me the free art and overlays for all 4 cabs. I had to fart around on hold, but the first agent I spoke with was friendly and even commented on what a great deal I'd gotten, before processing the request without issue or a hint of negativity. She even stayed on the line to confirm she's gotten the receipt and that I'd gotten confirmations for both sets of replacements via email.

It sounds like a majority of the Centi trackball issues are easy to resolve with a bit of lubrication and minor alignment tweaks, but since they are under warranty for a year I'm not worried about it either way.
Same here..

These things are easy to mod, I modded my SFII one last year with over 35,000 games, changed up the joystick and buttons, and added a $10 amp with better speakers.

Is it possible to order for store pickup then cancel it when it says ready for pickup then go buy it at clearance price?

If this Arcade1UP Deluxe 12-in-1 multi [walmart.com] was $75, I might get it - has the trackball and spinner. But I would still probably build my own cabinet with better controls and a bigger screen than that 17" POS they put in there!

The Arcade1UP Riser [brickseek.com] has been seen as low as $9 in some areas, $22.50 in others... and of course for the unlucky ones, still full price!
If you were 'going to build it yourself with better controls anyway', you already would have, and wouldn't be on this thread.

This cabinet is finally sub $100, which is where it should be. It should be $125 with control plexiglass cover and riser. These never should have been $200 plus. But now that they are coming down, I picked up an Asteroids and it is cool for the price.

I was just about to order an overlay/replacement art for my Asteroids. Think I should call and see if I can get for free first? If you have a suggested phone number as well, that would be great.

I wonder why the SFII cabs haven't dropped in price, but the rest are.

The spinners on Centipede are notorious for being faulty. They also no longer provide free replacement art and overlays. Support is like pulling teeth, especially when you show that $75 receipt. They'll hate you, even though they got their money.
what a load of crap. The company could care less if you paid $299 or $10. I have found support to be VERY responsive, but yes, the overlays are no longer free and their shipping/handling charges are freaking out of wack with reality..

It looks like the boxes that use the ball or knob controls are harder to sell, and are also older games. They aren't selling as well as SFII or the 12 in 1's. It's more a premium title so to speak.

So yeah, I did build my own... back in 1999 [archive.org] (thanks WayBackMachine for keeping an archive of my site), about 2 years after MAME was released. Pentium 233MHz, 32MB RAM, full custom control panel with steering wheel (Spy Hunter and Pole Position), trackball, spinner, and 2 6-button controls... loaded and more powerful than these Arcade1UP machines.

Now I have a Rasp Pi 3B+ in a NESPi case running RetroPi, X-Arcade controller, some USB console controllers, etc. Over 10,000 console and MAME games at my fingertips. I also have a full size Pinball PinMAME cabinet [vpforums.org]. I am a computer, electronic, and arcade junkie so I know what I'm doing and what I'm talking about. The Arcade1UP is a neat idea, but poorly executed and cheaply made. I'm not sure what they are replacing or fixing if you call them, but if it was a bit more sturdy to begin with, it would have been better. At $75, it may be more worth it for kids to destroy - it's cheaper than an iPad or cell phone!

And I'm in this thread to warn people (as many others have) that these cabinets are not what they probably think they are! Not saying some people won't enjoy them, just putting the reality of how small, cheap, and poor quality these are out there.

You aren't wrong in the sense they already got their money, but you can tell their main spokesman got irked asf with people talking about how they aren't even worth the discount prices. Just mentioning they're anything less than premium got him on the defensive. Maybe things are handled better now though. Still a less than premium product and they aren't doing right by offering free replacement parts. Oh well, is what is I guess.
