Having had two kids, I can tell you that your friend definitely needs it.

These are the refills for the Diaper Genie, which you get here.

The thing is a container for used diapers. When you change a diaper, you step on a little pedal that opens the top of the unit. You drop the diaper in and release the pedal, which closes the top of the unit. The refill is a plastic bag/liner that holds the diapers. Once it's filled, you open the Diaper Genie, cut the refill using a blade inside, and pull out new refill, tie it at the bottom, and close the unit. It does a very good job of containing the smell, as long as you empty it out before it overflows.

Not a deal when you can buy oem refills at a much lower price all day around from amazon. I have used both branded and oem refill packs and both are good enough to hold dirty diapers. I would rather buy the cheapest instead of paying premium for the brand. Pass

I use this method with the dollar store bags. It's been awhile but I think its $1 for 28 bags? They have 2 sizes where I'm at and I just get the higher gallon count. They are super thin but I've had little to no problems with them.

For odor, then you can upgrade by buying Glad trash bags with odor shield/febreeze. Not as cheap but that's what I use.

I've been using these with no problem. I used to buy whatever is cheapest, but got one brand with a bad chemical smell (not sold on Amazon any longer). The mama bear brand is fine as well, i just don't want to support Amazon more than I already do.
