Of all the receiver brands I've owned (Onkyo, Sony, Yamaha), I think Yamaha's are the best. Plus this a great deal on an Atmos featured receiver.
Denon avr 4400 and avr 4500 both do 11.2 processing. You just have to use 2ch external amp or old avr with preouts to power 2 speakers in the system.

100 percent the best brand for receivers not in the 2k plus range.

Was confused between RX-V 685 and Denon 3500 and then saw this deal. Just based on reviews, bought it! Let's see how it turns out. Thank you OP, commentors and Slickdeals!

Anyone know if this allows you to run different sources to different zones at the same time? I have the aventage rxa-2040 and it does, and need to upgrade for actual 4k processing. Curious if this has that feature (video in main zone, and Pandora in zone 2, for example)

As much as I love the Yamaha receivers their only down fall is their subwoofer pre outs. The give out very low power. If you do diy subs like I did you have to buy an ART cleanbox otherwise the rca doesn't provide enough power to the pro audio amp. Cant say anything about their other pre outs, but it was very frustrating dealing with the subwoofer pre outs

Well you would pay less and IMO XT32 is more accurate and intuitive than YPAO.
The biggest deciding factor would how each performed within your system and only each person can decide which is better IMO.

I know we aren't quite there yet, but my receivers tend to last me 10 years ish, so at this point kinda thinking I should wait for receiver's with HDMI 2.1. I will definitely be getting one of the new consoles and plan on a C9 as well. Thoughts?

Except for Denon and Marantz are essentially garage receivers now. 15 years ago in Denon maybe but not now.

Based on what, what you "read" or heard with your ears?

What I've heard being in the AV business for 27 years and selling all three brands. 🙂
