Hi dimkalvov

I would check to see how much Andy on ipcamtalk charges for the following
Dahua OEM NVR5208-8P-4KS2 vs Dahua OEM NVR5216-16P-4KS2
( double check the models numbers, as iirc Dahua recently changed how it numbers their cameras.. not certain if they also redid the models for NVRs.. )

Also check the specs - for $160 more I would hope to see more differences than just the number of PoE ports ( i.e. check bandwidth it can handle )

Remember to consider the PC + PoE switch option when considering your setup
( used i5/i7 4th gen+ PC + new switch if you do not already have a used PC around = best deal vs new PC )

Hi Mat, what do you think of the 3.6mm version of these cameras, vs the 2.8mm 8MP 4K Saturns that are also on sale? I need something for a small front porch, close to the street, and another for a long, narrow driveway next to the house. The porch is lit at night, the driveway is not currently but I have plans to.

Hi jwsteddum,

Not certain about the 6MP version vs the 8MP version - you'll want to see if anyone posted a comparison of that sensor in a Dahua OEM camera vs the 8MP version ( remember 1/2.5" starvis sensor.. should be basically a IPC-HxW48xx model )

I do like 3.6mm for most placements vs the 2.8mm
I like 2.8mm lenses for situations where the subject is close to the camera ( I use a 2MP 2.8mm Dahua OEM mini-dome wedge starlight at face level by my front door.. )

Also do check out the 5MP bullet, iirc it also does IVS and has a decent sized chip.

All of the Saturn line of cameras are good decent cameras and w/the 20% off good deals.

Look at the chip size ( they all appear to be using the same chip family ) and resolution - and then look up the pixel size. That will help give you an idea of which model does better in low light. ( larger pixel size = can gather more light, also check f-stop.. )

For me I would probably go with the 8MP ( or perhaps 6MP ) in places for day light coverage, toss in a couple of 5MP bullets to cover the side of the house - add a couple of Dahua OEM 2MP starlights ( or the newer 4MP starlight+ ) models for places which I want the best low light coverage. For the long driveway consider a varifocal model which will allow you to zoom down the driveway a bit when you setup the camera.

Hi Luniz97,

If you have a Lorex rebranded Dahua OEM NVR - then yes. Probably will require a bit of config sync for IP, port, user/password and maybe video substream ( search for the lorex thread on ipcamtalk )

Got the 8MP version and really liked them. Price is better on these one if you don't mind losing a little resolution

Any way of telling? I bought this and installed it.

I thought 4 would be enough to secure my fortress but looks like I might need 6 lol

So let's take a quick look at the specs:

LVS-DHPT3662W-28
6MP IR Eyeball Network Camera

3072(H) x 2048(V)
1/2.9" 6 Megapixel progressive scan CMOS
0.04Lux/F1.6( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
Ref: https://www.laviewsecurity.com/fi...62W-28.pdf

vs

LV-DHPTK3682W-28/4
8MP IR Eyeball Network Camera

1/2.5" 8MP STARVIS® CMOS
3840(H)x2160(V)
0.009Lux/F2.0( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
ref: https://www.laviewsecurity.com/fi...82W-28.pdf

Hmmm.. so the 6MP does not state it is using a Starvis chip.. and looking at the spec sheets from LaView the 8MP should in theory out perform the 6MP

Based on this little data ( and without a side by side ) - I would go with the 8MP turrets - even though they cost more.

Checking in on the 5MP bullets

LV-DHPB8652W-36
5MP WDR IR Mini-Bullet Camera

1/2.7" 5Megapixel progresive CMOS
2592(H)x1944(V)
0.03Lux/F2.0( Color,1/3s,30IRE)
Ref: https://www.laviewsecurity.com/fi...52W-36.pdf

Also seems to not be using a starvis chip, and the lux specs shown indicate the 8MP should perform better in low light.
( again, without a solid side by side comparison it is really hard to tell, and often spec sheets have a number of omissions and typos .. )

Are these compatible with the 4k lorex package from Costco that was around forever?

Hi takinitease, luniz97,

Both of those Lorex NVR kits from Costco are Dahua OEMs - so yes, the Saturn line of cameras will work with that kit once you configure / sync the ip, port, user/password and perhaps substream.

btw - The 8MP turret in theory should perform better than the 8MP camera in the original kit ( @takinitease ) and should in theory perform about the same as the cameras in the newer AD kit ( basing this on the sensor tech in the cameras ).

I bought two of these a few months ago. If you are using them with Blue Iris, Be prepared for each of these to hit your processor for an additional 10-15%. I was at average of 20% utilization with 7 reolink cameras on my 7700K and it jumped to 50% with theses. They are configured properly and I have tried every setting (H264, lowered framerate etc) and i have even tried the Dahua firmware from ipcamtalk. Nothing helps. open to suggestions if anyone has any.

HI caldwellone,

ipcamtalk has notes on tuning Blue Iris. You'll want to check on those.

Also what resolutions and frame rates are you using to compare the 2 cameras?

Often a big function of CPU utilization is associated with resolution, fps, and what detection methods you are having Blue Iris calculate. ( it is possible to see more CPU utilization because the cameras are sending more resolution detail to Blue Iris to compute )
