Yes that is advised to not get the promotion unless you will participate however there is no requirement prior during the order process to get one shipped, just pay shipping and you should have your device in-route.

It is electronic hardware that requires programming by you and interfacing to other electrical components by you wiring it up. In other words, if you don't know what this is, this is nothing you can use.

What's the target market/use case for these? Nearly any given week I think of some new thing I might want to build around the house that say an esp8226 or esp32 based module would be perfect for. And at a price point of $5 - $15 actually seems worthy. And less so, but often enough, a fun application for a Raspberry Pi, and again the price fits right in.

It's not clear to me what space this fills. Is it just the built in Microsoft cloud and security that make it special? It seems like a huge price premium for that. Even in large lot sizes/pricing, my naive guess would be it's only appropriate for premium manufactured appliances and such, like $2000 refrigerators. But I'm still very much a micro-controller/embedded/soc/iot newbie, so looking for a broader perspective...

Added: The geek in me wants to get one and play. The slick-dealer in me asks, "Are you just going to make the led blink and then put it on a shelf, and is that worth even the $8.00 shipping?"

I cant vouch for if it is worth it or not that if for you to decide, like almost all the other deals on here.. some are relevant to you and some are not.

It's for people who are interested in developing IoT in the Azure Cloud. Its not for everyone. I just saw the deal and shared it, so I hope i didn't come off as anything outside of this is a opportunity to get something that was $75 plus shipping for $0 plus shipping.

No, sorry, I didn't mean to imply it wasn't a slick deal - definitely seems a good deal worthy of posting. I was just trying to use it as an opportunity to understand what the typical applications were. At least for understanding, and hopefully for inspiration Smilie

It is meant to be for a developer to create a swarm of networked iot devices to be connected with the azure cloud. This a developer board, that is good just for developers. It has no consumer street value.
