Sounds like her laptop is more than sufficient for her needs. Maybe take advantage of the low prices on the 2018 iPad or iPad Mini 5 to give her a portable option for apps and browsing for much less than half the price...

Not an Apple person - but want to surprise my wife. She currently has an Apple Air from 2015 (A1465) Would this be a significanr upgrade? She just does light apps and browsing, nothing like photo or vid editing. Not trying to be lazy, but it's hard to find comparisons. Thanks in advance.

Cheapest that I ever saw the 2017 (pre-Retina screen) version was $650 (one time, with student discount from Best Buy) or $700 (just a few times, from Micro Center). So $800 seems like a very good deal for this 2018 redesigned model, even with just a 128GB drive.

I can get the student deal on the MacBook air that comes with the Beats that retail for $350 for $999 for the 128gb model. Would it make more sense to get that and sell the beats for say $200 to match this price? I have no idea how much the Beats would sell for on the secondary market.

Also wanted to mention that the beats deal is on the 2019 model which is said to have a 35% slower ssd. On top of that Micro center only charged me 3% sales tax. I prefer this deal and not having the hassle of selling the beats.
