A 10TB+ NAS for photo and video editing. 1 gig LAN would bottle neck, because Raid on NAS (with SSD caching) can achieve over 1000MB/s read and write. Such NAS including HDD can be done around $1000 with good deals. There are realiable and affordable 10gig switch now for $150. 10gig switch is cheaper now than people might have thought. Eventually in a couple years, it will become more affordable. Running a thin fiber cable (low power, low latency, only need a tiny hole) through house is easier than Ethernet cable. For 10gig, minimum requirement of Ethernet cable is Cat6. But for slightly longer distance, a Cat 7 is needed. Cat 7 cable is sometimes more expensive and require more power at switch than fiber.

Is there any reason the 8-port is worse than the 5-port other than the extra $1? I don't think I currently need 8 ports but might as well have headroom for the future.
