Seems like a gimmic? I got the one that looks the same without the screen. Great machine.

$800 is pretty dang good for this machine. I have had it for almost a year and love it. It puts Starbucks coffee to shame and has saved me easily its price. The touch screen makes everything easier to use. Highly recommended if you are in the market for a great coffee machine.

The non-touch Barista Express model was America's Test Kitchen's favorite DIY-style home espresso machine. I'm sure the Touch version is just as good, but easier to use. Breville is pretty consistent with quality.

Can confirm that the Barista Express is a fantastic little machine. Got in on the last slick deal at $383 new.

HOWEVER - I thought it would end up saving me money. I'm starting to think it'll just end up getting me to drink more coffee. When a homemade latte or cappuccino is this good you start planning your morning around it. Then you start calibrating your grind, temp, tamp, etc (going through lots of beans). Then you start looking into fresh roasted subscription services....

Edit - and THEN you realize that milk is actually what you're spending all your money on.

This is pretty awesome but the reviews are saying it really doesn't get hot. I like my coffee hot...

Interesting. Now I can't, either. They must have just locked it down. Even their cooks.io link doesn't give me access like it did yesterday.

Here's the show clip for the video review. They post them all on YouTube now:

The Breville Oracle Touch makes sense, as it is almost fully automated and the touch screen lends to that.

The Breville Barista Touch does not make sense, as you are still required to tamp the coffee grounds yourself and froth the milk yourself. The only thing that this machine does for you is time the extraction period.

Summary, Touch feature is slightly gimmicky on the Oracle Touch. Is total gimmick on Barista Touch.

Get the non-Touch and enjoy the extra $400+ elsewhere.
