My guess is because It has digits on it.

It's about as digital as my hands, imho.

In a serious note, I don't know why people bother with this. I mean it looks pretty sleek I guess if you are running a nano 1-2 gallon tank and you can barely notice it, but they are inaccurate af. if you have cichlids or larger fish that tend to break the glass ones this may be useful - but agree this would have considerably lag being outside and may result in overshoot if you raise the temperature quickly.
