Weird these were just published today and are free. Can malware or data collection happen with this stuff? Also, note that although they say "complete" most of them are really not complete.

I cant comment on the completeness. About the malware part, I very much doubt that its malware. Its like spreading viruses or malware using pdfs, The Kindle would use these as a document and there would be sufficient inbuilt protections, especially considering it wont even easily read your personal downloads.
Someone with better knowledge can throw a better light though.
BTW, Golden Deer Classics has some Barnes&Noble listings from couple of years ago. Seems highly unlikely that they are trying to screw anyone over. These just seem like poorly edited pieces that they are giving away to spread the word.

Cool deal - but I guess I'm old and cranky now - if I am going to spend hours days and weeks of my life diligently reading something - I will be p1ssed if it wasn't the right, complete copy without errors - my personal time is worth spending like 10$ a book to ensure I didn't waste 20 plus hours of my life. My younger self wouldn't have cared.
