I've got the 6" versions of these in two rooms. I've owned speakers from KEF, NHT, Elac, mirage, monitor audio, psb, etc etc. These measure and sound as good as anything I've owned. Excellent speakers. I don't listen to chamber, symphony, or live performance music where I try to point out where individual instruments were positioned during recording, so I don't put "imaging" high on my list of priorities. A dynamic, uncolored, balanced sound is my goal.
You need a sub for home theater.
Always recommended. No in wall speaker is going to do what a sub can do to fill out sound in your home.

New to in-walls. Do these need a subwoofer? This would be for a home theater...

These seem to always be on sale for $80. Wouldn't buy if they were more. They aren't bad for $80

Thanks. Should I go standalone or in-wall sub?

Get a standalone..the BIC sub for 200 bucks is a lot of sub for the money

I would also point out that that holds true when comparing in wall to stand alone speakers also.
You sacrifice quality for aesthetics/convenience.
I am not placing judgement because this is all subjective just my opinion.

I have these speakers built into my ceiling but they were never connected to anything, just wires hanging out of my wall. Someone gave me 4 Sonos Connect (zoneplayer I think) could I connect the speaker to the Sonos zone player or it needs an amp or something else?
