This one is 9.2 vs 7.2 on the 3500h.

Kills this?

I love Yamaha, but the 2085 lacks HDMI 2.1 (it only implements eARC), its room correction is strictly worse, it has one fewer HDMI input, it isn't expandable to 11.2 via a separate amp, and is 1" taller and 5" deeper.

The Yamaha may be the better choice for some people, but it in no way "kills this", and you're missing out on HDMI 2.1 support and other features.

eARC is great, and I'm wishing my AVR had it.

But not sure you ever needed to upgrade in the first place. AFAIK, the only device that would have 4k Video and lossless audio, would be a 4k blu-ray player. Except they make 4k blu-ray players (LG UBK90) that have a separate HDMI out for audio/video. Meaning you can bypass your AVR for the video (so you keep 4k/HDR) and bypass your TV for the audio (so you get full lossless audio without having to downgrade to lossy audio over regular ARC). Other devices (like the 4k Apple TV) don't support lossless audio, and running 4k apps on your TV obviously never need to send a 4k video receiver through your TV.

eARC will definitely buy you some time, but the problem I have with thinking it will completely future-proof your receiver is that audio formats have changed/evolved (granted at a slower pace than video). Atmos/DTS:X is the most current example. Sure there will be more.

Or a PC.

Or any of the newer game consoles

And probably others I'm not thinking of at the moment

Has Denon improved their OSD since the x3300h? it's so clunky/blocky. Picky, I know... but I've convinced myself not to upgrade until i can get a better, more responsive OSD.
Personally, I couldn't care less as long as it's functional.

This updated version can re-asign your 2 front channel making this capable of running 11.2 channel. But i think the draw back for me is that this receiver can only do 100watts/per channel. It's still a good price considering its was just release.
not sure what you mean by "reassign your 2 front channels", the back of the receiver has 11 speaker connections.

lol at "drawback can only do 100watts/per channel"...If you think you are getting 100 watts PER channel out of this thing you need to go back to EE school..
listing says "The powerful DSP is capable of 11. 2 channel processing, allowing you to extend the system with an additional power amplifier."

I'd only ever be interested in ever upgrading my current 7.2 setup to a 11.2 setup for adding 4 height channels. Are you guys saying that this could work without an additional amplifier? Have 500-series JBL speakers, I'm not trying to go crazy loud with them, but just want total immersive sound. Certainly not an expert here, just trying to figure out what's possible vs what's recommended.

This amp only have 9.2ch on board processing amp. To get to 11.2 you will need to reassign the other 2ch and use external amp to power it.. hope that make sense. If you need further explanation you can check out audioholics youtube he talked about this particular amp in regards to this matter. But be careful he hates millennials lmao

sigh, if only Fry's wasn't teetering on the edge of BK we would be able to snag this bad boy for $600 or less..miss those days..
Frys is going out of business because of their shady business ethics. They lost their relationship with denon and other brands because they purposely wouldn't keep certain items in stock but advertise cheap prices on them just to get you to come into the store. Ever seen their video card section?? Also there is a reason why there hasn't been 1 reciever in promo codes for past 3 months. first 3 stores closing are all in bay area san Fran, concord, and I forget the 3rd, Milpitas maybe?

Yeah I'm going to miss them too, I was able to score good stuff, but they messed up big time losing all their business to denon and other brands. They also got caught selling open boxes items on items they advertised as new

They've honored every deal I've gotten from them, even the $58 AR Harmony 900 remote back in 2010. Yeah, they tried to cancel, but when the Interwebs clapped back, they honored the deal. Ya think Glamazon or Bawlmart would've done that?

I'm gonna miss the great deals. No more $249 Denon X2-00, $499 X3-00, or $749 X3-00 deals makes me Frown.

Cool story, bro. I'd prefer one that looked nicer and wasn't nearly as laggy.

I use it every day, multiple times.... and it lags on my x3300h. It also looks like 8-bit graphics. My $400, 6-year-old Vizio TV has a better looking, more responsive volume OSD.

It just amazes me that Denon never bothers to updates it in what are supposed to be premium products. One of these years they'll improve it. They've had the same exact one for 5+ years.

Looks like the 2019 X3600H = the 2018 X4500H in terms of speaker handling capabilities (9.2 channels amplified with 11.2 support using an external 2-channel amp and the pre-outs).

The reason I keep coming back to Denon is Audyssey MultEQ; does any competitor have a product as good with speaker calibration?
I'm guessing you meant Audyssey MultEQ XT32?
Yes there are a few other competitors that are actually better.
They do come at a higher price and the learning curve on them are higher(much higher IMO).
Whether is worth the money and extra work is completely subjective.
IMO for the average person that just wants to run RC, XT32 works well.

Dirac Live is generally considered to the the best "consumer" product out there at the moment. You will find it in NAD and Emotiva products and a few other brands

https://www.dirac.com/buy-product...r-partners

I used to love denon amps, but their current products (I just sold my X6500H which I got from amazon for $1,000) are crap. the sound quality was lacking compared to many other products I have used recently from Onkyo or Yamaha.
