I love Yamaha, but the 2085 lacks HDMI 2.1 (it only implements eARC), its room correction is strictly worse, it has one fewer HDMI input, it isn't expandable to 11.2 via a separate amp, and is 1" taller and 5" deeper.
The Yamaha may be the better choice for some people, but it in no way "kills this", and you're missing out on HDMI 2.1 support and other features.

The reason I keep coming back to Denon is Audyssey MultEQ; does any competitor have a product as good with speaker calibration?
Yes there are a few other competitors that are actually better.
They do come at a higher price and the learning curve on them are higher(much higher IMO).
Whether is worth the money and extra work is completely subjective.
IMO for the average person that just wants to run RC, XT32 works well.

I used to love denon amps, but their current products (I just sold my X6500H which I got from amazon for $1,000) are crap. the sound quality was lacking compared to many other products I have used recently from Onkyo or Yamaha.
It just amazes me that Denon never bothers to updates it in what are supposed to be premium products. One of these years they'll improve it. They've had the same exact one for 5+ years.
Doesn't everyone turn the on screen volume display off? Why would you want it to pop up on your screen?

was much better than the X6500H. better impact / punch, more musical.
comparing different room correction systems is somewhat difficult since you don't have the same software across multiple brands. so there are other factors / variables that work into the total equation.
You do have to be comfortable adjusting your frequency.
Receiver choice is subjective and personal.
For me I compared several receivers within my system and came down to 4400 vs Yamahas 3070 and 4400 was clearly the better performing one.
Another plus was it was much less 😜.
Had I gone by specs and reviews I would have ended up paying more with less performance so always try auditioning because it will be different for each person.

It has references to tons of myth debunking A/B/X and blind tests... but almost invariable nobody can actually tell the difference in such testing for amps (or cables while we're at it)
Includes mention of the famous Richard Clark challenge
It is an ABX test which to pass needs two sets of 12 correct identifications. Reputedly over a thousand have taken the test and none have passed.

Now, that's just the raw amps... modern room correction softwares absolutely are different. There's better (and certainly much worse) stuff than XT32, but I don't think there's easier better stuff for folks who don't know what REW is and just want an easy set it and forget it system.

Was later reported several thousand had tried and all failed- more on that here.

Ultimately your ears would be the best judge to what sounds good to each person.
Are there differences between receivers when it comes to what you hear, yes. There are so many variables on why, the amp gets so much attention because of what is written but it's just a very small drop of a huge pool of water.
Using your ears is the best practice when determining what best sounds to each person but no one ever listens, it's futile.

But yes its a lot of channels for the money...but no doubt they felt they had to compete with the Pioneer/Onkyo offering with this many channels at a similar price point
AS for Audyssey versus the other Asian manufacturer's options...thats a personal choice
