Note most channels are not HD, but more like a high end 480P. No sports at all.

Most of the folks on SatelliteGuys are happy with the picture quality. Not everyone wants to pay big bucks for sports that are force-bundled by other television providers.

Not to mention no news channels..

Has this service been hacked yet?

DshNetwork stopped this kind of service.. I do not know why, but it had a few more channels and if you needed locals they were there. Dish should revisit that if this takes off..

BestBuy does not seem to have the Dishneeded listed.. If you are thinking of this because of the 1/2 off , better find out if you get the $85 dish / install kit 1/2 off..

Maybe you should look at the channel lineup again.

If you're referring to the Welcome Pack, locals were an extra charge.

The self-install kit is $70, not $85. A professional install with an OTA antenna for local reception is a mere $150. The Dish Welcome Pack required you to pay for the installation and also the equipment, which cost much more than $50 (receiver) and $100 (DVR).

Orby TV is filling a niche for rural folks, the broadbandless, and those sick of the BS promos (dealing with retentions) and fees of the other satellite and cable providers. You're also not stuck with paying for months you don't need, it's prepaid.

Kind of a noob with these and certain apps, but why not just get a Roku and install something like Pluto for free? I get it if you don't have Internet, but if you don't have Internet, then you're probably not reading this anyway. I didn't know what Pluto was and was curious so I installed it and it had a bunch of free live TV stations. I think you only pay if you upgrade with certain premium channels, but I could be wrong. Haven't messed with it much.

CNN is not a news channel.. It is part of the fake news we hear so much about. Omission of the #1 cable network is a serious flaw. If this is geared for the folks in fly over country they missed the one channel they want.. That omission will doom this to fail...

The folks in Flyover country are lucky to get OTA tv signals since 2008. They would be looking for the big 4 and USA Pravda (PBS) on a satellite subscription..
Maybe you should just sit this one out champ

Dish used to sell a dp301 or dp310 with a dish for $100.. They had a Paygo plan.. And a full complement of channels. When Ever I set one up there was 1 channel and the locals they wanted and were the first they checked to make sure it worked.

Direct even had $100 kits..

The dish price of $85 I read somewhere on line, but the point is the subscription is lacking and the setup kit will not be 1/2 off or seems to be not available at BB..

This is so new you wont be able to craigs list a used dish either..

I am kind of surprised to see any new satellite player. DirecTV is said to be for sale and Dish seems to be interested..

If the idea is to sell service to parts of the country not served by cable, they should tailor the product to the market they want to serve.. just saying the obvious.. They need that station to compete in the markets in flyover USA..

Not down voting the deal, just pointing out they are not going to see the #1 cable channel in any package they sell. I know the mere mention of this fact triggers some. Some how a safe space has been intruded upon.. Some how the mention of that networks its existence is forbidden..

If CNN is what you would call a news network, then yes, it is a news channel to you. I bet you do not watch it, no one does...

They are constantly in the last place for a reason. People who actually watch news STRONGLY prefer a different network.

About 1/2 of the voters in this country do not count CNN as a news channel let alone would pay for it in a TV package as the only choice for what is loosely called "News"...

I hope you don't think you speak for everybody in "flyover country". Prior to the digital transition you were lucky to get 5 or 6 channels where I live. We now get at least 16 channels with a cheap antenna and probably 30-40 channels with a good outdoor antenna and pre-amplifier. As far as news channels if you're referring to Mr Murdoch's so called news channel not everybody in this part of the country watches that. I personally prefer our local news and no matter what news channel you watch nobody will agree 100% with any news channel.

Back to the deal I'm not familiar with this particular service but it definitely seems like a good deal to me for somebody not wanting all the bloat and just wants some decent pricec entertainment.

Newsmax may be more your speed. BBC, CNN, CNNI, CSPAN, CSPAN 2, and HLN are in the mix too. This service isn't trying to be a bloated TV package, it's prepaid with just enough programming.

I know you're going crazy about the dish not being 50% off, but they've had deals recently (last week) with a free professional install under decent / fair rent-to-own terms. You can also buy a third-party dish and LNB. Dude, you've got options with this niche service that you can turn on and off at your pleasure.

@JMBauer74
Rural folks may have internet, but horrible low data caps on smaller ISPs. I used to have a 100GB cap and streaming for services such as Pluto TV were a no-go.

Orby TV is ran by former satellite executives of Voom HD Networks - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voom_HD_Networks .

Also, locals are OTA, so if you can't get internet and a decent streaming service you likely won't be getting any locals either.
