Bullshit. With proper research and knowledge he can do just as good a job as you or any other contractor could. The jig is up, contractors can stop trying to rip off savvy consumers with ridiculous bids for basic labor, that will probably still be done wrong because most contractors and subs are lazy pos's. Don't shame this guy for taking care of his own shit.
You get that info off a matchbook. If you don't anything about a subject, don't say anything about it. Especially code violations, one reason you don't put romex in conduit is because it creates more heat and is not advised in conduit if you have conduit you can run insulated wires instead it's probably cheaper. when you put romex inside conduit The Romex cannot breathe and retains too much heat. Good luck with finding that aluminum conduit at Lowes or Home Depot. What you'll probably find is EMT which is galvanized steel.
50 feet of 12/3 from Home Depot is not even close to $17.45.

Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Holy carp. At these prices I am going to stock up for remodels years out. I just wish they had some 14/2 deals, because how high a percentage of a house is really /3...

Anyone point me in the right direction for which one I would need to add an outdoor flood light onto an existing flood light? Have a light at one corner of the carport, want to add one onto the other corner. TIA

Edit: looks like 14/2 is all I need

Great prices if you need the extra wire over /2. If not, then prices are similar or maybe a little cheaper than /2 at big box stores.

Anything outdoors - use 1/2" aluminum conduit to get your wires to the next location. Either use this romex or 12 gauge solid wires from your current light fixture to new. Chances are you'll need quite a few outdoor rated boxes and fittings.

Please, please, please, I don't care what you think you can learn from youtube, if you didn't even know what kind of wire to use to add a light, DO NOT DO THIS JOB YOURSELF. Yes, adding a light is incredibly easy, but it's the intricacies of NFPA and NEC, which edition is in effect in your jurisdiction, and basic building code rules that are common sense to people with experience, that scare me about people that don't even know what kind of wire is required. Just don't.

I couldn't tell you how many homes I have owned, flipped, rented out, that I have opened an outlet or switch and found the most disgusting jobs done on something so basic, because they just don't know what the heck they're doing even though the principles of it are so basic.
