I've been checking these speedlights out wanting to consolidate my lighting and just use Godox instead of Yongnuo. These are originally $179 and they're currently $50 off. That's a pretty good deal to me.

The Flashpoint Zoom Li-on R2 TTL Flash for Canon represents a significant breakthrough in speedlight power technology with the introduction of full R2 Remote TTL connectivity and interaction with all Canon strobe functions. From standard ETTL, to Exposure Compensation (FEC), FV Lock, High Speed Sync, and an automatically zooming flashhead, all the way to complete ETTL II control connectivity with other Canon flashes, group control, Slave and Master options, and advanced flash functions, the Zoom Li-on flash takes you as far as you want to go.

Rechargeable proprietary battery? Unless they are really cheap, easily chargeable and work with something else...I appreciate the offer, but I will pass.

Charges well and inexpensive. I have the first version of this flash. Can go months without charging it after multiple shows and it's not wasteful like AAs. Compared to rechargeable AAs, it's faster and capacitor charge time is twice as fast.

Have the Sony version. Battery lasts a very long time, recharges easily and pretty fast. Have not had any of the misfiring issues spoken of here. Use it for on camera as well as off camera with an octobox. Has done great for the price. Much prefer this over the aa battery types after having it for awhile.

What is the reason for buying this instead of 580ex ii?

I don't think the proprietary battery is that expensive and it will last much longer that a bunch of AAs.

My main reason is that you get the R2 remote built in so you can control all of the Godox speedlights and strobes with this speedlight. I'm streamlining to Godox on all my lighting.

I just had to toss the battery to one of these after it started swelling. Out of warranty too. First time I've had a battery swell on me.
