What I'm getting at is I want an NAS but not 4 bays would this Prime CC discount apply to any Synology NAS?

while we can expect to pay for sales tax now for almost all online purchases, the reason why this ends up being meh is that amazon is charging a whopping $547 for this, b/c they matched everyone else boosting the price higher leading up to black friday. so this special cash back offer ends up being diluted not just by the sales tax (which will be a factory going forward) but by the price being higher than what we've seen historically for this
on the positive side, if other retailers have boosted the prices for this leading up to black friday it means we should expect to see substantial deals on them. i'm hoping to see deals on 8bay ones

Yep. Unless you have price protection from your credit card, it's probably best to wait until BF to buy something like this. Even if the price ends up being the same at other sites you might be able to save on taxes.
It's an option you choose when you setup the file share. See https://www.synology.co

I already have the DS918+ (IMO, a great NAS), but was slapped with a wet noodle over using a Seagate SMR drive when I shouldn't have been such a doofus and gotten a PMR instead...
If the price goes down within 30 days (Black Friday comes within that period) will Amazon adjust the price?
No Amazon doesn't provide price protection. However this is eligible for free returns, so you can return this and buy another one for a better price on BF.
