Although the post noted 6 points sockets, when comparing to other sets... a lot of those have 12 point sockets so think for a lot of us this deal stands out over others. Just noting this for others that aren't aware that 12 points sockets are more likely to round off fasteners.

I don't see the model number on the Costco site, but I think it's DWMT41019.

Sadly these are not quick-release ratchets, and there's no 6-inch extension in the kit.

Most folks never use most of their sockets in the set and never realize most of the cheap sockets they buy have all or most 12 points. 12 points are cheaper to make as they don't need the extra precision that is needed for the 6 point sockets. Well, if most folks never use most of their sockets, and probably just buy them to impress someone - they might as well gets lots and lots of 12 point sockets at a lot cheaper price.

This is definitely a nice set for the auto repair DIYer to have in their portfolio.

I think this is a nice deal but no quick release on the ratchets is a deal killer. 6 vs. 12 point sockets is one thing but no quick release on the ratchets will be annoying time and time again.

If you actually end up using the tools often this will eventually annoy you enough to buy better ratchets.

The bean counter that decided to make ratchets with no quick release deserves to suffer.

Thanks for this info. I was debating hard between this set and the Ace hardware set. No quick release is the deal breaker.

The ratchets are not quick release, but they are Dewalt's low profile ratchets.
They are significantly smaller in footprint than their quick release ratchets.

Im not sure why they aren't advertised as low profile, because that's certainly a selling point.

Here is a review of the Dewalt Costco set. The ratchets held up to be some of the strongest for the price and had a decent range of sockets.

I'm in for one and the set is now back ordered to 11/29 as an FYI.

Not having quick release ratchets is not that big of a deal to me. I've gotten plenty used to not having QR with my go-to Snap On ratchets. I've rarely if ever thought that a QR ratchet would have made my life easier. If anything, my QR Craftsman ratchets have sometimes made me wish they were NOT QR because some sockets (even within the Craftsman brand, with some being US and some being imported) have slightly different detent pockets where the socket won't seat on the ratchet without having to push the QR button, but will readily pull off the ratchet without the QR button being pushed. I'm not going to try to remember which sockets exhibit the QR feature or not.

The only time I feel a QR feature is handy is when using a long extension - and I'm talking having QR on the end of the extension, not on the ratchet. If you need a long extension, you are likely dealing with a fastener that you can't easily reach with your hand. A socket that falls off that long extension often means you will have to spend time fishing out the dropped socket.

I agree, never really thought about whether or not the ratchet I was using had quick release. The one I used on a project today (Gearwrench 120xp) doesn't have quick release and it works just fine to retain and remove sockets from a variety of manufacturers.
